As the Creative Director for Evident Media, I’m responsible for the visual identity of both the brand and the products we create. This includes setting visual standards for our video journalism and leading efforts across branding, web design, social content, podcasting and overall creative strategy. Below are the core elements of Evident Media’s brand that I’ve managed since launch.
The core of what Evident Media creates is video journalism. As a journalist with over a decade of experience, my primary creative output will always be telling meaningful stories through compelling video. But I also recognize that telling important stories and reaching a wide audience don’t always go hand in hand — and bridging that gap is part of the challenge I’m committed to solving.

Branding & Art Direction
Nonprofit journalism has traditionally focused on revolutionizing funding models to sustain the important work of fact-finding. But we knew funding alone wasn’t enough to resonate with new audiences. To stand out, we needed to look and feel like a brand that could thrive in any funding ecosystem — mission-driven, but also modern, magnetic, and culturally relevant.
Challenge
Develop a visual identity from scratch that reflects the mission of video journalism — while also making the brand feel modern, culturally relevant, and appealing to younger audiences.
Journalism seeks truth, but not all truth is easily made evident. Our visual identity reflects that tension — a wordmark built from individual glyphs, each representing a fragment of a story. Assembled together, they form a unified whole, symbolizing how reporting, video, and audio combine to bring maximum clarity.

At Evident Media, part of our mission is to release all content free and accessible to everyone — with no paywall. While we primarily use social platforms to distribute and amplify our video journalism, we knew we needed a website that functioned not only as a practical home for our work, but also as a key tool for marketing, audience engagement, and donor support.

In addition to our long-form video journalism, Evident Media produces social-first content designed to meet audiences where they are—on platforms optimized for quick, high-impact engagement. While this content may have a shorter shelf life, it demands a higher bar for immediacy, hook, and shareability. Beyond video, we also craft static social posts that spark interest, encourage interaction, and drive viewers toward our flagship visual reporting.

Transform long-form visual journalism into compelling, bite-sized social content that captures attention quickly, delivers clear and meaningful information, and actively drives audiences to engage with and explore our flagship reporting.
Solution
Leverage consistent brand art direction as a unifying throughline across long-form and short-form content, ensuring visual and tonal cohesion.
